  States\, 55% of women living with HIV have experienced domestic violence.
  DV and HIV advocates can play an important role in helping domestic viole
 nce survivors living with HIV access supportive services from in their com
 munity. This workshop will provide information on HIV\, domestic violence\
 , best practices for working with survivors living with HIV\, and confiden
 tiality. Attendees will also learn about building partnerships and trauma-
 informed care.\n\nVictims of domestic violence are at an increased risk fo
 r acquiring HIV\, and women living with HIV experience domestic violence a
 t rates higher than the general population. (Campbell JC\, Soeken K. 1999\
 ; Machtinger 2012) In the United States\, 55% of women living with HIV hav
 e experienced domestic violence. (Machtinger\, 2012) This experience can d
 ecrease the survivor’s overall health\, interrupt the effectiveness of med
 ications\, and increase the chance of developing an AIDS-related illness o
 r condition. One study from the University of California\, San Francisco c
 onducted by Dr. Edward Machtinger showed that women\, cisgender and transg
 ender\, who were living with HIV and experiencing domestic violence had mu
 ch higher rates of antiretroviral failure than women living with HIV that 
 were not experiencing domestic violence.\n\n\nThis event is hosted by AIDS
  Delaware\, Delaware Coalition Against Domestic Violence\, and the Nationa
 l Network to End Domestic Violence.\n\n
