This interactive 90-minute, workshop is not your typical trauma training. This workshop places a unique emphasis on the brain science that drives the understanding of trauma and behavior. Participants will learn advanced concepts of the effects of trauma on the architecture of the brain and body. Participants will apply those concepts to the impact of secondary traumatic stress. Finally, attendees will identify organizational strategies to prevent re-traumatization of clients and staff. This workshop explores the interaction of trauma on the victim services system.

Presenters: Kiera McGillivray and Shannon Fisch, Children and Families First

Kiera McGillivray is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Delaware. She is the Chief Program Officer of School-Based Initiatives with Children & Families First. Kiera McGillivray is trained in several trauma focused modalities and is published in internationally peer-reviewed journals on the topics of trauma and children. Kiera McGillivray is also a clinical supervisor, and co-chair of the Brain Science Training Institute. She has presented to military personnel, fellow therapists, and educators on trauma, children, and ethics.

Shannon Fisch is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Delaware. She is the Compliance and Accreditation Manager at Children & Families First. Shannon is an avid volunteer in her profession, serving the current secretary and previously as the treasurer and president for the National Association of Social Workers-Delaware chapter. She received her post graduate certificate in trauma from Widener University and her non-profit management certification from University of Delaware. Shannon is the co-chair of the Brain Science Training Institute.

This course, “Integrating Neuroscience with Trauma Informed Practices” is approved for continuing education by the NASW-DE Continuing Education Approval Collaborative. CE Approval Period is from March 1, 2022-January 31, 2023. Delaware social workers will receive 1.5 General CE credits for participating in this course. CEUs are only available for those who attended the webinar live.
