Below, you'll find answers to some of our most frequently asked questions:

When is the conference?  May 6-7, 2024

What’s the address? Atlantic Sands Hotel and Conference Center, 1 Baltimore Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971

Do I have to attend both days? No, a one-day registration is available to attend either day of the conference.

Am I eligible for the member rate? Individuals who are affiliated with one of DCADV's Member Organizations (CHILD, Inc.; Community Legal Aid Society, Inc.; Delaware Center for Justice; People's Place; and YWCA Delaware); individual supporting members; and Delaware Certified Domestic Violence Specialists are all eligible for the member rate. Visit www.dcadv.org/membership to become a member or check your eligibility.

Will there be continuing education credits available?  DCADV will be applying to the National Association of Social Workers, Delaware Chapter for 9.5 contact hours of continuing education credit. All training hours also apply to those seeking initial certification or recertification as a Delaware Domestic Violence Specialist.

Will there be food? Continental breakfast, buffet lunch, and light refreshments during break times will be available to all registered participants.

Will I receive copies of the presentations?  We will not be providing paper copies of workshop materials unless specifically requested.  Instead, all attendees will have access to materials online.

Will I receive a certificate of attendance?  All participants will receive a certificate of attendance once they complete a conference evaluation.  

I’m registered, but now I’m not able to attend.  What should I do?  Please notify DCADV at training@dcadv.org of any registration changes/cancellations.  You may cancel your registration and receive a refund (before the cancellation deadline of 4/26/24).  You may also substitute someone else from your agency to attend in your place.

What is DCADV’s Training Cancellation/Refund Policy? Please note that in order to receive refunds or credits, registered participants must notify the DCADV Training and Prevention staff by phone (302-658-2958) or email (training@dcadv.org) no later than six business days (April 26, 2024 at 11:59 p.m.) before the scheduled training. Otherwise, all registrants, including no-shows, will not be eligible for a refund, and any registrants who have not prepaid will receive an invoice. Registrants receiving DCADV Training Scholarships are subject to the same policy and are not eligible for cancellation refunds or credits for the scholarship portion of their registration costs.

Are there opportunities to share information about my agency/organization?  A limited number of exhibitor tables will be available.  Please fill out the Exhibitor Request Form to request space.  All exhibitors must register to attend the conference.  Spaces will be confirmed in early April.

Where should I park?  Free parking in the hotel lot of available for overnight guests only.  Parking is also available in the hotel lot for daytime attendees requiring accessible spaces.  Free street parking is available on the streets surrounding the venue.  Meters are not in effect during our event.

Where do I pick up my conference program and name badge? Registration/event check-in will begin at 8:00 a.m. each day in the Club Lounge, next to the hotel lobby.  There will be signs and DCADV staff to help you find your way. 

What should I wear?  Dress is comfortable.  Many of the workshops include experiential activities, and we want you to feel at ease to move and participate freely. In addition, the temperatures in the conference session rooms may fluctuate, so please dress accordingly. We strive to ensure the comfort and safety of conference participants by encouraging a smoke-free and fragrance-free environment.

    Clean up Your Online Path

    Internet Safety

    Everything you do online is recorded. It is IMPOSSIBLE to clear your tracks completely. Your computer stores hundreds of bits of information about everything you do with your computer, including information about which websites you've visited, your passwords, and what your emails say. An abuser can easily track the websites you visit or read your email messages.

    If you suspect your activities are being monitored, they probably are. Abusers are often controlling and want to know your every move. You don’t need to be a computer programmer or have special skills to monitor someone’s computer activities – anyone can do it and there are many ways to monitor your activities - even without having direct access to your computer. Using a separate computer is best, but you can protect yourself at home by familiarizing yourself with processes like private browsing, deleting your browser history, clearing your cache and deleting cookies.

    You can be tracked

    Your abuser can track your online actions – there is nothing you can do to remove your tracks completely. If you try to erase your tracks, your abuser might become suspicious.
    If you think you might be in danger, use a computer at a public library, internet cafe or a trusted friend’s house. If your abuser sends you email, do not open it on those computers.

    Email Safety

    Email is not a safe or confidential way to communicate.

    Sending email is like sending a postcard through the mail. Anyone along the path can read what it says. If you need to talk to someone about the danger or abuse in your life, if possible, please call a hotline instead.

    If you must use email to discuss your situation we suggest you use an account that your abuser doesn't know about. Set up a new account with a free email service like hotmail, yahoo, or gmail.

    Password Safety

    Be smart about passwords to keep your abuser out of your accounts.

    DO NOT use a name or password that contains any identifying information (no names, nicknames, initials, birthdates, zipcodes, etc.) Instead use a name and password that contains a random mix of letters, CAPITAL letters and numbers (for example, HJ3v67Tn) -

    Make sure you can remember the user name and password. If you must write it down somewhere, put it in a place your abuser is unlikely to find it.

    If the computer asks if you would like it to save your password or login information tell it NO.
